Task 4. Sampling and determination of chemical constituents and isotopes from the deep aquifer.
Hydrogeochemical pumping test will be performed to acquire data on deep aquifer system and samples taken to determine major, minor and trace elements as well as environmental isotopes. These data will be evaluated by means of geochemical models and finally help to estimate mean residence times and groundwater recharge conditions for the deep groundwater system and the hydraulic connection of the artesian groundwater to the Aral Sea and river of Amu-Darya. The new data will certainly improve the quality of the deep groundwater model (task 3).

Expected results: Improvement of knowledge on recharge conditions in the artesian basin and improvement of the deep groundwater model.
