The NGO, non-profit ASIAED assists in supporting the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, and in particular UNESCOs Community Learning Centres (CLC), and Asia and Pacific Programme of Education for All (APPEAL), which is a regional co-operative programme designed to promote literacy.

UNESCO leads the global Education for All (EFA) movement, aiming to meet the learning needs of all children, youth and adults by 2015. ASIAED is within the standards established through the EFA Global Action Plan which is a comprehensive strategy developed to improve international and country-level coordination for Education for All. It aims to clarify the roles of the five international agencies spearheading the global EFA movement (UNESCO, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF and the World Bank) and define their coordinated, joint action at the global level. Ultimately, it aims to achieve better and more targeted action on the ground, at the country level.
