EMonument is contributing to the effort of developing a technology to scan crucial documents efficiently so they can be achieved and transmitted off-screen, by e-mail attachment or fax in order to assist in the provision of continued access to and preservation of digital heritage and cultural objects. Our aims are to assist in the proposed DLM-Network and DigiCULT Resources, which will further contribute to the wider Community aims of exploiting more fully the benefits of the information society.

• offering relevant training opportunities tailored to target groups and those who are at risk of seeing their skills overtaken by rapid change;
• forming a network of learning and training centre for demand-driven information, and communications technology training;
• fostering collaboration between private industry and public organisations;
• closing the digital divide between countries in the area of digital document lifecycle management and access to public information by allowing smaller nations the opportunity to participate in a wider research network; and
• fostering links between industry and other stakeholders in the area of digital document lifecycle management and access to public information.

The proposed network will also contribute significantly to the identification of areas of digital document lifecycle management and access to public information requiring further research and investigation, and standardisation and regulation. In addition, the knowledge base developed will assist in the identification of new areas of e-initiative that can be stimulated to create employment and to bring the European Union to the forefront of the information industry.
The DLM Network will also reinforce and complement the objectives of the eEurope2005 initiative which aims to provide an Information Society for all in the areas of egovernment, ehealth and elearning to create a more dynamic business environment, with secure information infrastructure and availability of broadband access.

The overall goals of of the DLM Network are to:

1. Establish a strategic network to bring together individuals and organisations from both the public and private sector involved in Document Lifecycle Management
2. Provide a formal and sustainable entity to support the network members in fulfilling their roles and responsibilities and to raise awareness in the field of Document Lifecycle Management
3. Provide technology and knowledge transfer and information services, appropriate practice guidelines, benchmark indicators and information, educational, skills development and research opportunities.
