EMonument Obsolete Pesticide Disposal

OBJECTIVES AND GUIDELINES

EMonument as a collaborative effort, follows the guidelines of FAO, UNEP and WHO with the overall objective of promoting principles and practices for environmentally sound management of pesticides.

Another organization working with similar objectives is the International HCH and Pesticides Association (IHPA) is specifically active in the EECCA countries to bring awareness and regional cooperation towards solutions of OP in the region. The International HCH & Pesticides Association (IHPA) is an independent and non-political network of committed individuals that wants to draw international attention on the world-wide problems stemming from the production and use of HCH and other obsolete pesticides and its dangers for human health and the environment.
The IHPA has made its full commitment to use all its strength and know how to contribute actively to the solution of problems stemming from the production and use of HCH and other obsolete pesticides in Central-Eastern Europe and Central Asia (NIS).
The IHPA is thus working towards a regional strategy, based on support of all international and national stakeholders, to solve this serious regional problem by means of the creation and stimulation of an active network. This so called "True Living Network" will create the bases for a joint and broadly supported international platform able to prepare specific action programs.

The implementation of these guidelines regarding safe and environmentally correct disposal and handling of obsolete pesticides in developing countries include:
· statistical reference work containing the inventory of obsolete pesticide stocks in developing countries -
· establish a training manual on pesticide stock management -
· commence practical disposal and handling methods in developing countries -

Our aims are to implement a geographical identification system (GIS) to help better monitor disposal operations and bring foreword donor agencies to assist in these procedures. The applied activities will among others also include:
· analysis new disposal methods and update procedures -
· launch disposal operations in developing countries -
· provide monitoring services which are independent to guarantee that disposal operation thoroughly conforms with   international and environmental safety standards -
· assist in acquiring funds for such operations -
· strengthen donor coordination -
· research and develop resolutions concerning contamination from spillage -
· assist in the prevention of pesticide stocks from deteriorating by organizing international seminars regarding planning, handling   and storage management procedures -
